Really? How so?

And that's cool.

stains00: Long story

Well, my parents had the same last name when married, so both sides go back to King Ludwig and the neuschwanstein. The History of our last name actually dates back to 69bc. My brothers look (and act) exactly like the dreamer king. haha. I grew up thinking I would inherit the castle someday, being "full blooded" and all. LOL

Which last name? Did both your parents have the same last name (from your post it sounds as though they did), or is it just your patriarchal side that shares this last name with Ludwig? Which family member are you directly related to... Ludwig? And oh that castle would be pretty to inherit, I agree!

which is strange because if each of your parents are related to one another, and you live in the USA, then the laws are such that relatives cannot marry. Ironic really since most of European royalty was bred on incest.

stains00: Ironic yes

Yes they had the same last name. Swango. They found out they are fifth cousins far removed. They are divorced now. I don't know the exact lineage. but supposedly both sides go back to ludwig. I was more interested in the castles. the Hohenschwangau is connected with our name as well. I was sure I would live in one someday. The neuschwanstein castle has been rebuilt a few times. the last time by ludwig. I don't remember his last name?

What is your interest in all this? There is a swango society that has the geneology. They know as much as everyone else about the mad king. I will try to post my coat of arms to this community. It is packed for moving right now. Plus, this may spark my interest again: )

Oh, I'm just a history buff who can only boast pirates, thieves, diplomats and a Russian General in her familial history ;-)

That's so wild that your parents had the same last name and both related not only to one another but to the Wittelsbach lineage. I mean... what are the chances, right? Where did they meet (did they grow up in the same city?)?

Question for you though... I didn't think Ludwig sired any children... even illegitimate children -- did he? Most of my focus has been on Ludwig's life with some interest in his family and how he came to be -- the motivation for him to build those fantastic castles and so forth.

Have you met other family members over the years?

stains00: what are the chances

They met in High school in (Richmond?) Indiana. Neither family knew eachother.
Kentucky is the next state over and was founded by the Swangos. The army gave them land to start a colony there.
No I don't know about his children. I doubt he had any. Which makes me wonder about the stories! My father may have illusions of grandeur. My father is the one who traced back the lineage and since we don't talk anymore I am without a lot of information. Both my maternal grandfather and grandmother grew up in an orphanage, so witout permission it's hard for me to trace the family. Apparently my father got permission, but my grandparents refuse to help anyone further. they say they don't want to know. Anyway, I don't blame them. The more family I meet the more I realize how crazy they are. Haha. I understand how hard it must be for historians now. It's amazing how little we can really find out. even in our own families. Hidden pasts and animosity. People are impossible. I'll stick to architecture. There are Swango reunions usually held in Kentucky or Indiana. There is swango springs and a one room school house in Kentucky.

I do know from my own research that Ludwig was facinated by fantasy and entertained oscar wilde. Do you post most of the info you find on this community?
